Weather: - (7am Temp First light/Last light)
Sunday 43º  5:54/7:53 Clear and cooler early am but light haze from fires on the west side with billowy clouds moving through and light evening breeze Monday 46º 5:55/7:52 Clear with light breeze some high wind clouds moving overhead Tuesday 47º 5:56/7:51 Clear and breezy with some gusts throughout the day into more windy conditions late evening Wednesday 46º 5:56/7:50 High thin clouds with light wind most of the day and gusting all day Thursday 45º 5:58/7:47 Clear with a light breeze and heavy gusts then calmed around 4:30pm  Friday 51º 5:59 /7:46 Very clear with strong breeze Saturday 47º 6:00/7:44   This past week was even warmer with more and more small patches of aspens going to yellow then a bit of wind on Wednesday which dropped the temp. CalTrans is repairing the remainder of the rock fall project that started last summer. Chain link fencing is almost installed above the barriers and hopefully it will be done before the fall color change so the Mono Lake Committee doesn't request another POSTPONEMENT. No delays on Saturday or Sunday.
The stock truck arrived Tuesday with 500 pounds including trophies. Trumble and Big Virginia also got stocked including trophies.

BAIT: Night crawlers are still the number one. Various powerbait worked most of the week; pink mice tail/white head, yellow glitter powerbait, and salmon peach are also took a lot of trout. Salmon eggs on size 14-16 red egg hooks are also doing FAIRLY well. For the best action on a mice tail use the new light wire hooks by Owner called Mosquito hooks and be sure and ask how to hook the mice tails for the best results.

LURES: The best action was on red/gold Buoyant's, gold Super Duper's 501, small gold Kastmasters 1/12 and small silver/blue Buoyant's, Small gold spoons, small Rooster Tails, rainbow Thunderbolts, and Panther Martin yellow/red dots. Always try all your favorite hardware until the fish find the "action" they are looking for. Remember to use the lure properly by adding the right swivel for the best action. Not much change here.

FLY AND BUBBLE: Good dry fly action when the surface warms and caddis (cream colored moths) are still around so try an olive elk-hair caddis, light Cahill, Hemmingway Caddis, green body California Mosquito and Grey Hackle yellow size 14, damsels, hoppers and black ants. Also try some Black Gnat parachute #14, Cowdung #14, and Adams Female #14. Shake some bushes and see what flies away, you'll be surprised.

Best action is ALWAYS when their is a chop on the water which is usually late afternoon to legal limit at night.

FLY RODS: Olive and black Doc's Twin Lakes special (no bead no weight),Virginia Lakes special, dragon flies nymphs, poxy-back Callibaetis, black woolly buggers, olive Hornberg's, Hemmingway Caddis, Tent-wing Caddis, Black Gnat parachute size 14 and skinny stillwater nymphs. If you tie flies use less material than normal for high elevation waters don't quite understand why they work better maybe it's the Lasik surgery that makes the flies look better.

BACKCOUNTRY: Surface hatches are still fairly good when there is a solid ripple and the air temp is between 55 and 60, so try some dry flies with a bubble or fly rod on small Griffith's gnats, mosquitoes, black ants, hoppers, and olive elk hair caddis sizes 16-18; fly size will change as the weather cools so start using larger hooks. Lure angler action has been good on small gold Super Duper's, gold Mepps size O, and very small gold spoons. Early morning and early evening are the best times for any action. This is pretty consistent for the canyon. Come and ask me what's hot.

Please keep only what you can eat, it is a valuable resource. Also, If the trout bleeds, it's yours, PLEASE don't toss it back into the lake as it will die. If you care about the resource please be careful when releasing fish back into the lake. Also, IT ATTRACKS BEARS!
